Connection

[Connection] Android Auto is not activated on the car display


If the Android Auto is not activated on the car display, it is usually due to the following reasons:
● The car display does not support Android Auto -> Mgears products are only available on the car displays which support Android Auto. ● The vehicle or car display model is not officially supported -> Some or all of the features may not work properly if the car or car display is not an officially supported model. ● The projection is not set to Android Auto -> Please check if the projection is correctly set to Android Auto in the car display settings. ● Insufficient power delivery to the Mgear product: -> Some vehicles may not supply sufficient power to the Mgears product. Please supply additional power using the included USB Y extension cable. ● Wireless Android Auto is enabled on the car display -> Please disable the wireless Android Auto function on the car display. [How to Disable Wireless Android Auto] ① Enter 'Settings' on the car display. ② Go to 'Wi-Fi Settings'. ③ Uncheck 'Use Wi-Fi for phone projection'. (Disabled) * The above method is based on Hyundai/Kia car models, and the disable method may differ depending on the vehicle model or brand.
If the problem is not above or if the problem still occurs after performing the above methods, please contact customer service.




[Connection] Disconnection occurs


If the Mgears product is disconnected from the vehicle, it is usually due to the following reasons: Please try the several methods below in order to solve the problem.

1. Check the status of the USB extension cable -> If you are using a USB extension cable, please check if the same problem occurs when plugging the Mgears product directly. If the problem does not occur when using the Mgears product directly, there may be a problem with the USB extension cable. Please use the other USB extension cable or plug in the Mgears product directly. 2. Check the status of the vehicle's USB port -> Please check if the same problem occurs when using Android Auto with an Android smartphone. If the same problem occurs when using Android Auto with an Android smartphone, there may be a problem with the vehicle USB port. Please check the status of the vehicle's USB port with the vehicle manufacturer. 3. Update the Google WebView app -> This could be an Android system issue due to an error in the Android System WebView app. Please update the app to the latest version through the Play Store in the Mgears product, and reboot the device and check if there is any problem. [Connection] Guidance for Using the USB Y extension cable


Some vehicles may not deliver enough power to the Mgears product through the vehicle's USB port. Please supply additional power using the included USB Y extension cable. * Vehicle charger is sold separately.




[Connection] Guidance for Using the type-C USB gender


Some vehicles with type-C USB port may require type-C USB gender. Please connect the vehicle with the Mgears product using the type-C USB gender. * Type-C USB gender is sold separately.




[GPS] Guidance for using USB GPS for vehicles that do not support GPS


Connecting an external USB GPS device to a USB port on the Mgears product allows you to use the Map and Navigation apps even on vehicles with no GPS support. * After connecting a USB GPS device, it may take up to 10 minutes to receive GPS information. * Bluetooth GPS tethering using smartphones is not recommended due to stability and performance issues.

[Bluetooth] How to connect Bluetooth hands-free


To use the Bluetooth hands-free call function, you must register your smartphone as a Bluetooth hands-free device with the Mgears product. * For Bluetooth hands-free functionality to work correctly, the smartphone and vehicle must be connected via Bluetooth hands-free before the Mgears product boots. * Mgears products don't support Call control (accept/terminate) currently. Please use the call button on the steering wheel or the call UI on the car display.
[How to register a smartphone as a Bluetooth hands-free device with a Mgears product] 1. Enter Bluetooth Connection Mode on the Mgears Product ① Enter '(Product Name) Settings'. ② Go to Bluetooth Hands-free. ③ Go to Hands-free device ④ Select Add button. 2. Connect to Mgears product from the smartphone via Bluetooth [Android] ① Enter Settings and move to Connections. ② Tap to Bluetooth. ③ Turn on Bluetooth and select Mgears product at the device list that can be connected. ④ Select OK button in the connection check popup. ⑤ Select Confirm button when the contact synchronization popup is displayed. * The above method is based on Galaxy S10. [iPhone] ① Enter Settings ② Tap to Bluetooth. ③ Turn on Bluetooth and select Mgears product at OTHER DEVICES. ④ Select Pair button in the Bluetooth connection request popup. ⑤ Select Allow button when the contact synchronization popup is displayed.
* A Bluetooth hands-free connection between the Mgears product and the smartphone is required to display call information. * Depending on the smartphone when you receive or make a call via the smartphone's UI, call sounds may be output from the smartphone instead of the vehicle speaker.




[Bluetooth] Call sounds are output from the smartphone


If the call sounds are output from the smartphone, it is usually due to the following reasons:
1. Vehicle and smartphone not connected by Bluetooth hands-free -> If the Mgears device boots before the vehicle and smartphone are connected, the vehicle and smartphone will not be connected by Bluetooth hands-free. Using the 'Boot delay' function, connect the car and smartphone to Bluetooth hands-free before the Mgears product is booted. 2. Controlling the call with the UI of the smartphone -> Depending on the smartphone when you receive or make a call via the smartphone's UI, call sounds may be output from the smartphone instead of the vehicle speaker. Control the call by using the call button on the vehicle's steering wheel or the call UI on the car display. * If the smartphone and vehicle are connected by Bluetooth hands-free, you can set the call sounds to be output from the vehicle speaker. (Smartphone's call UI > Bluetooth > Select the car) 3. The smartphone or the vehicle is not compatible with the Bluetooth hands-free function -> If the smartphone or the vehicle is not compatible with the Bluetooth hands-free functionality of the Mgears product, call-related problems may occur. When using the smartphone or vehicle, please use the 'Disable Hands-free connection' function so that the smartphone and Mgears product are not connected by Bluetooth hands-free. [Bluetooth] The call button of the steering wheel is out of control


Some vehicles may not be able to control the call with the call button on the steering wheel while using the Mgears product. In the vehicle, set the call button on the steering wheel to the 'Exit' function to move to the car display home and control the call. * Functions using the vehicle's buttons may not work properly depending on the vehicle. * In vehicles where the 'Exit' function cannot be used with the steering wheel's call button, please use another method to control the call. (e.g., Go to the car display home using the vehicle's home button)

[Bluetooth] Guidance on connecting other Bluetooth devices


Bluetooth of the Mgears product is used for Bluetooth hands-free function of smartphones. It is not recommended to connect separate external devices via Bluetooth. * Connecting an external device via Bluetooth can cause problems such as unstable Internet connection or disconnection of calls.




[Bluetooth] Connection problems on Chevrolet models


If the Mgears product can not be connected to the Chevrolet vehicles, it is usually due to settings of Bluetooth hands-free. Unregister all Bluetooth devices registered with vehicles and the Mgears product, and reset the Bluetooth connection may resolve the issue. * Please refer to the vehicle manual for instructions on how to unregister Bluetooth devices registered in the vehicle.

Internet

[Internet] How to connect to the Internet


Internet and real-time content are available from Mgears products by connecting to hotspots on the smartphone via Wi-FI. * To activate the smartphone's hotspot, a SIM with tethering is required. * When using the Internet and real-time contents, network data from the smartphone connected to the hotspot is used.
[How to connect to the Internet(Wi-Fi)] 1. Activate the smartphone's hotspot [Android] ① Enter Settings and move to Connections. ② Tap to Mobile Hotspot and Tethering. ③ Tap to Mobile Hotspot. ④ Set the password and set the band to 2.4 GHz. ⑤ Turn on the hotspot. * The above method is based on Galaxy S10. * After initial setup, hotspots can be easily turned on and off through the quick icon in the notification. [iPhone] ① Enter Settings ② Tap to Personal Hotspot. ③ Set the password and turn on the hotspot. * After initial setup, hotspots can be easily turned on and off in the control center. * Some Mgears products can only be connected to Wi-Fi in the 2.4GHz band. On iPhone 12 and above, turn on Maximize Compatibility to set the band to 2.4GHz. 2. Connect to the smartphone's hotspot via Wi-Fi on the Mgears product ① Enter Settings ② Move to Network and Ineternet. ③ Enter Wi-Fi and turn on. ④ Select the smartphone at the searched list. ⑤ Enter the password of Wi-Fi




[Internet] Guidance on whether Router can be used


Mgears products connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi, so you can connect to the Internet through the router. However, it may be difficult to utilize the 'Boot delay' feature when using a router. * Please check if there is any problem using Bluetooth hands-free function when using the router.




[Internet] Guidance that SIM card is not supported


Mgears product is not equipped with LTE or 5G communication modems. Therefore, the SIM card used in the modem is not supported. Please use smartphone hotspot or wireless router for internet connection.




[Internet] Unable to connect to the Internet


If the Mgears product can't connect to the internet, it is usually due to the following reasons:
● Problems with Wi-Fi frequency setting -> Some Mgears products can only be connected to Wi-Fi in the 2.4GHz band. Please check the frequency of the smartphone's hotspot. ● Problems with the smartphone or the router -> There may be problems with the smartphone or the router. Please check if you can connect to the Internet using another smartphone or router. ● Problems with time settings on Mgears products -> Please check if the 'Automatic date and time' is enabled in the time settings of the Mgears product. [How to enable 'Automatic date and time'] ▶ Settings -> General -> Date and time > Automatic date and time -> Turn on ● Network data exceeds limit -> Network data usage through hotspots or tethering may have exceeded the limit. Please check with your network provider customer center.





App

[App] Unable to proceed with Google login


The first connection to the Mgears product will update the Google service, which may cause the app to shut down during Play Store login. After selecting the 'Cancel Update' button at the bottom left of the login screen of the Play Store, you can proceed with the login without shutting down the app.




[App] Some screens in the app are not displayed


If the app does not support landscape mode, some screens may not be displayed or some UI in the app may not work properly. If you change the display size to small in '(Product Name) Settings', you may see the invisible screen or the UI of the app may work correctly. * Some apps have confirmed that all screens are displayed and working properly when the display size is 'Smallest'. (Example: Wavve)




[App] How to use split screen mode


If you use Android's split screen mode, you can use two apps on the screen at the same time. * Split screen mode is Android's function and is only available on supported apps.

[App] How to delete apps


There are two ways to delete apps installed on Mgears products. * Some basic built-in apps, including the Mgears system app, cannot be deleted.
[How to delete from desktop or app drawer] ① Select the app that you want to delete from your desktop or app drawer and convert it to a moveable state. ② Drag the app to the upper left 'Trash Bin (Delete)' icon. ③ Select Yes button in the check popup. [How to delete from settings] ① From Settings (Android), enter 'Apps & notifications'. ② Select 'See all ○ apps'. ③ Select the app you want to delete. ④ Select Uninstall button. ⑤ Select Yes button in the check popup.




[App] How to delete desktop widgets


How to delete a widget on the desktop is as follows.
[How to delete desktop widgets] ① Select the widget that you want to delete from your desktop and convert it to a moveable state. ② Drag the widget to the upper left 'X' icon.




[App] App does not run or is forced to shut down


If Google Apps is updating or needs an update, some apps may not run or be forced to shut down. Please update all Google Apps to the latest version on the Play Store and try again. * When the product is installed and launched for the first time, Google apps are updated automatically and it may take some time to complete. * Depending on the app, some or all features may not work properly. (e.g., Camera apps, Landscape mode unsupported App, etc.)




[App] Unable to update app

[App] Unable to update built-in apps


It is normal that some of the apps installed by default in Mgears products cannot be updated through the Play Store. The apps do not need to be updated as versions specifically optimized for the product are installed. If a version change or update is required, it is supported through firmware update. * If an update required notification message is displayed in the app, please ignore it.




[App] Low memory notification is displayed when downloading or updating apps


If a low memory notification is displayed when downloading or updating apps, it is usually due to the following reasons: Please try the several methods below in order to solve the problem.
1. Free up storage space -> You may actually run out of storage space. Free up storage space by deleting unnecessary apps and files. * Please put large files and contents in USB memory and use them. 2. Clear app cache and data -> There may be a problem with the app itself. Please clear the app's cache and data and try again. * If the same error occurs afterwards, please delete the app and try installing and updating again. 3. Reset the device -> There may be a problem with the system of the Mgears product. After resetting your Mgears product, check if the same problem occurs. Mgears products do not officially support interworking with rear monitors. * Please understand that it is difficult to guide and check if it is not an official support function or device.




[Etc.] Guidance about not supporting to play media of the smartphone


The Mgears product does not support to play media such as music, videos, etc. of the smartphone. Please play your wanted media directly in the Mgears products. * While using Mgears products, you cannot simultaneously play music from the smartphone through the vehicle's Bluetooth.
1. For streaming services -> Please install the streaming service app in Mgears product and use it. 2. For media files -> Please play the media directly from Mgears product using USB memories, cloud services, etc.




[Etc.] Guidance about Hardware acceleration


Hardware acceleration is a function to improve the performance of the device, and it refers to the use of hardware that can perform functions faster than the software method running on the CPU. Almost all vehicles support hardware acceleration, so please turn on the feature when using. * However, in some vehicles that do not support hardware acceleration, performance degradation such as device speed may occur, so please turn off the function.

Mgears products do not officially support mirroring. If you need to mirror the smartphone screen, please install mirroring apps in the product and use the function of the app. * Please understand that it is difficult to guide and check if it is not an official support function or device.

Mgears product is only available in Android Auto area of the car display. Depending on the car display, the full screen may not be available on some wide and vertical displays. * The Android Auto area of the car display can be checked by connecting the Android smartphone with Android Auto.

Using both Mgears products and basic radio at the same time is not supported. Please install a radio app in the product and use the radio through the app.

Some Mgears products require a USB memory formatted as FAT32 for firmware update and recovery.
How to format a USB memory larger than 32GB to FAT32 format without using Mgears Update Media Creator is as follows.
* Mgears Update Media Creator includes the process of formatting to FAT32 if necessary.
* Formatting deletes all data stored in USB memory.

[Tip] How to adjust screen and sound sync


The screen and sound out of sync during video playback is caused by audio buffering of the car display. The 'AV Sync. adjustment' function allows you to adjust the screen and sound sync. * The 'AV Sync. adjustment' function adjusts the sync by delaying the screen, so when the function is activated, the screen and touch response may be delayed while using the video app.

Galaxy smartphone users can set up hotspots on their smartphones more easily and conveniently by utilizing Bixby's routine function. The following is how to set up the Bixby routine, which automatically sets the hotspot of the smartphone depending on the vehicle's entry/exit.
1. Turn on the smartphone's hotspot when you enter the vehicle (when the smartphone is connected to the vehicle) ▶ Bixby Routines > Add routine > Add what will trigger this routine. > Bluettoth device > Device > Select the vehicle > Connected > Done > Add what this routine will do. > Connections > Mobile Hotspot > On > Done 2. In some Hyundai/Kia models equipped with a wide display, you can use the Mgears product and the original navigation function by split the screen of the car display.

[Tip] How to use the boot delay function


'In order for the Bluetooth hands-free function to work properly, the smartphone and the vehicle must first be connected via Bluetooth hands-free before the Mgears product boots up. The smartphone and vehicle may not be connected by Bluetooth hands-free if the product boots before you reach your car, such as when remotely starting the vehicle. The 'Boot Delay' function and the 'Stop the delay when Wi-Fi is connected' ​option can delay the boot of the product to enable the smartphone and the vehicle to be connected by Bluetooth hands-free.

[How to use Mgears Update Media Creator] ① Download ‘Mgears Update Media Creator’ from the Mgears homepage. ② Unzip ‘MgearsUpdateMediaCreator.zip’ when download is completed. ③ Insert a USB memory of at least 4GB or more into the usb port of your PC and run ‘UpdateMediaCreator.exe’ in the unzipped folder.   ③-1) When the SmartScreen pop-up appears, select ‘More info’ and the ‘Run anyway’ button.   ③-2) When the User Account Control pop-up appears, select the ‘OK’ button. ④ Select your language and the ‘START’ button. ⑤ Select your device and the ‘Next’ button. ⑥ Select your wanted update type and the ‘Next’ button. ⑦ Select the USB memory inserted in step 1 as the storage and the ‘Next’ button.   * The USB memory will be formatted during the process. Please back up important data in a separate storage in advance. ⑧ If you select the ‘Yes’ button in the confirmation popup, the update file download and copy will proceed automatically.
